The body control module (BCM) applies a ground through the brake pedal position sensor reference low circuit to the brake pedal position sensor (BPPS). The BCM supplies a 10-volt reference through the brake pedal sensor reference voltage circuit to the BPPS. When the brake pedal is being applied, the brake pedal sensor then sends a variable voltage signal through the BPPS signal circuit to the BCM.
This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:
DTC C0283 Brake Pedal Position Sensor Circuit Low
The battery voltage must be between 9.0-16.0 volts.
| • | An open or a short to battery positive voltage or ground on the low reference circuit is present. | 
| • | A short to ground or an open in the stop lamp switch signal circuit is present. | 
| • | A open or a short to ground in the 10-volt reference circuit of the brake pedal position sensor. | 
| • | A short to ground or a short to battery positive in the I/P dimmer control circuit. | 
| • | A malfunctioning brake pedal position sensor or BCM. | 
The stop lamps will turn on steady.
| • | The DTC will clear on current status after the condition for setting the fault is corrected. | 
| • | A history DTC will clear after 100 consecutive ignition cycles without a fault present. | 
| • | A History or current DTC can be cleared using a scan tool. | 
Perform a visual inspection for loose or poor connections at all related components. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections .
