Condition
Some customers may comment that the power window does not work or operates
slowly. The customer may also comment that this condition is intermittent.
Correction
A new motor kit without the regulator is now available for 1999-2002
model year vehicles only. This is not to be used on 1997-98 model year
vehicles.
Replace the power window motor, using the following service procedure:
Sedans
All Models
- Remove the door trim panel. Refer to the Door Trim Panel Replacement
procedure in the Doors sub-section of the Service Manual.
 
- Position the water deflector to allow access to the power window
motor to door mounting screws.
 
- Disconnect the motor electrical connector.
 
- Remove the motor-to-door mounting screws.
 
- Position the motor assembly through the door access opening to
allow removal of the motor-to-window regulator mounting screws.
 
- Remove the motor and door mounting bracket from the window regulator.
 
- Install a new power window motor and door mounting bracket to
the window regulator.
 
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 6 N·m (53 lb in).
- Reposition the motor to the door and install the mounting screws.
 
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Reconnect the motor electrical connector.
 
- Reposition the water deflector to the door.
 
Important: Discard the old door trim panel retainers and replace with the new retainers
before installing the door trim.
- Install the new trim panel retainers to the door trim panel.
 
- Install the door trim panel. Refer to the Door Trim Panel Replacement
procedure in the Doors sub-section of the Service Manual.
 
- Verify proper operation of the power window.
 
Coupes
Grand Prix and Monte Carlo Models
- Remove the power window switch assembly.
 
- Remove the door trim panel. Refer to the Door Trim Panel Replacement
procedure in the Doors sub-section of the Service Manual.
 
- Reconnect the power window switch electrical connector.
 
- Position the water deflector to allow access to the window regulator
and power window motor mounting screws.
 
- Remove the energy absorber pad from the door access opening.
 
- With the window positioned to gain access, remove the regulator
to the window attaching screws.
 
- Raise the window to the full up position.
 
- Tape the window in the full up position.
 
- Disconnect the power window motor electrical connector.
 
- Remove the regulator and motor-to-door mounting screws.
 
- Position the regulator in order to gain access to the motor.
 
- Position the motor assembly through the door access opening to
allow removal of the motor-to-regulator mounting screws.
 
- Remove the motor and door mounting bracket from the regulator.
 
- Install a new power window motor and door mounting bracket to
the regulator.
 
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 6 N·m (53 lb in).
- Reposition the regulator and motor assembly to the door and install
the door mounting screws.
 
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Reconnect the motor electrical connector.
 
- Remove the tape supporting the window.
 
- Lower the window to gain access to the regulator to window attaching
screws and install the screws.
 
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Install the energy absorber pad.
 
- Reposition the water deflector to the door.
 
- Disconnect the power window switch electrical connector.
 
Important: Discard the old door trim panel retainers and replace with the new retainers
before installing the door trim panel.
- Install the new trim panel retainers to the door trim panel.
 
- Install the door trim panel. Refer to the Door Trim Panel Replacement
procedure in the Doors sub-section of the Service Manual.
 
- Install the power window switch assembly.
 
- Verify proper operation of the power window.
