2. Replace the ball joints. Refer to Lower Control Arm Ball Joint Replacement in Front Suspension.

The front wheels are out of alignment.

Perform a front end alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Measurement in Wheel Alignment

There is a sticking power steering gear valve.

1. Flush the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Flushing .
2. Refill the power steering system. Refer to Refilling the Power Steering System .
3. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
4. Service the power steering gear if symptom persists. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement .

The power steering gear is loose.

Tighten the power steering gear mounting bolts to specification. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement .

The intermediate steering shaft bolt torque is too high.

Tighten the intermediate steering shaft bolt to specification. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.

The rack bearing preload is improperly adjusted (too high).

Tighten the rack bearing preload to specification. Refer to Steering Gear Rack Bearing Preload Adjustment - Off Vehicle .

The steering column is binding.

1. Inspect the steering column alignment.
2. Adjust the steering column alignment as necessary. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
3. Inspect the steering column mounting.
4. Repair the steering column mounting as needed. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
5. Inspect the steering column bearings.
6. Replace the steering column bearing as needed. Refer to Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Disassemble - Off Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.

There is incorrect tire pressure.

Inflate the tires to specification. Refer to Tire Inflation Description in Tires and Wheels.

The steering column joints are binding.

1. Inspect for the correct torque.
2. Replace the components as needed. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.

The plastic boot on the intermediate steering shaft is out of position.

Inspect the plastic boot.

Replace the plastic boot as needed. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt
