The Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) contains sophisticated
on-board diagnostics. The diagnostics identify the source of any system malfunction
as specifically as possible. This diagnosis occurs whether the malfunction
was intermittent or constant. The on-board diagnostics are accessed with
a scan tool.
The scan tool performs the following functions:

| • | Storage of specific data at the time of the malfunction |
| • | Monitoring of each input and output, enabling the following operations: |
| • | Malfunction confirmation |
| • | Manual control of the components |
| • | Automated functional tests |
