FRONT END NOISE ('POP') ACCELERATION AND/OR BRAKING

Models Affected: 1985 Electra with 3.0L (LK9) and 3.8L MFI (LN3) Engines

Notice: This bulletin supersedes 85-10-8 dated October 1984. Note in Step 3 changed. Please discard original bulletin and replace it with this one.

A "squeak, crunch or popping" noise may be experienced on some early Electras acceleration and braking. The condition is usually a single pop.

Follow the recommendations shown in 1983 Dealer Service Bulletin #83-218 in the Body Section along with the following procedures:

1. Remove cradle mounts.

Note: Do not disasseable more than two mounts at a time in order to maintain cradle and front end alignment.

2. Squeeze locating guide on the lower cushions slightly, per illustration, in a vise to cause a slight interference fit in the cradle. Rework all six mounts in this manner.

3. Reinstall mounts in the same locations frcm which they were removed.

Note: Soap or a soap and water solution may be required to aid installation of top cushion onto lower cushion.

4. Torque cradle mounts to 103 N.m.
