RATTLE/BUZZ IN I/P AREA INSTALL FOAM ON ASHTRAY LID

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1985 Electra and Park Avenue ----------------------------

A rattle, coming from the instrument panel ashtray area with the ashtray open, may be caused by the 'snuffer' lid (spring loaded ashtray lid) rattling against the lower instrument panel. This lid has been eliminated on current cars, but should not be removed as a service correction for rattling.

The 'snuffer' lid has two ribs running from front to back. Two pieces of sticky-back foam material may be used as insulators, and installed on top of the two 'snuffer' ribbed areas. Each insulator should be 20 by 42mm and about 3mm thick (approximately .75 by 1.62 inches and .12 inches thick). Install each insulator along top of rib and position as close to start of rib and passenger compartment as possible.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
