Transmission Internal Mode Switch Resistance Check (1999 C-car 4T65-E)

  1. Disconnect the automatic transmission (A/T) wiring harness assembly from the IMS.
  2. Using the J 39200 digital multimeter (DMM) and the J 35616-A connector test adapter kit, measure the resistance from each terminal to each of the other terminals and to the manual shift detent lever.
  3. Refer to the Transmission Internal Mode Switch Continuity Check Procedure.

Is each terminal Open and Closed as specified in the Transmission Internal Mode Switch Continuity Check Procedure?

Measure the resistance of the A/T wiring harness assembly from terminal F to terminals G, H, J, K and the transmission case.

Is the resistance greater than the specified value?

100 K ohms

Go to Step 3

Measure the resistance of the A/T wiring harness assembly from terminal G to terminals H, J, K and the transmission case.

Is the resistance greater than the specified value?

100 K ohms

Go to Step 4

Measure the resistance of the A/T wiring harness assembly from terminal H to terminals J, K and the transmission case.

Is the resistance greater than the specified value?

100 K ohms

Measure the resistance of the A/T wiring harness assembly from terminal J to terminal K and the transmission case.

Is the resistance greater than the specified value?

100 K ohms

Measure the resistance of the A/T wiring harness assembly from terminal K to the transmission case.

Is the resistance greater than the specified value?

100 K ohms

System OK

Replace the Automatic Transmission Wiring Harness Assembly.
