Frt Seat Back/Cushion Heat Element is Non-Functional (Replace Seat Heat Element)

Condition

Some customers may comment that the heated front seats do not operate properly.

Cause

This condition may be due to the seat heat element being non-functional.

Correction

Determine which element is non-functional.

Replace the front seat back and/or seat cushion heat element by performing the following applicable replacement procedure:

Seat Back Heat Element Replacement -- Front

For 1997-2000 Park Avenue and Ultra


    Object Number: 649812 Size: SH
  1. Remove the seat back cover. Refer to Seat Back Cover and Pad Replacement -- Front in the Seats sub-section of the Service Manual.

    2. Object Number: 649818 Size: SH
  2. Install the seat heat element (Park Avenue Ultra shown).
    3. • Remove the paper from the tape that is located on the back of the heat element.
    • Carefully position and press the heat element (1) onto the seat back cushion pad (2).
    • Tuck the narrow connecting strips into the seat back cushion pad trenches.
  3. Insert the seat heat element harness (3) between the seat cushion (4) and the adjuster assembly (5).

  4. Connect the seat heat element GREEN electrical connector to the Heat Module GREEN electrical connector.
  5. Cut off all of the old heat element harness (6) from the seat back trim cover.

    6. Important: Ensure the heat element is laying flat with no wrinkles on the seat back cushion pad.

  6. Install the seat back cover. Refer to Seat Back Cover and Pad Replacement -- Front in the Seats sub-section of the Service Manual.
  7. Ensure the seat heat function is operational.

Seat Cushion Heat Element Replacement -- Front

For 1997-2000 Park Avenue and Ultra


    Object Number: 649821 Size: SH
  1. Remove the seat cushion cover. Refer to Seat Cushion Replacement -- Front in the Seats sub-section of the Service Manual.

    2. Object Number: 649823 Size: SH
  2. Install the seat heat element (Park Avenue Ultra shown).
    3. • Remove the paper from the tape that is located on the back of the heat element.
    • Carefully position and press the heat element (7) onto the seat cushion pad (8).
    • Tuck the narrow connecting strips into the seat cushion pad trenches.
  3. Insert the seat heat element harness (9) through a hole located in the right rear corner of the seat cushion pad (10).

    4. Object Number: 649824 Size: SH
  4. Connect the seat heat element BLACK electrical connector to the Heat Module BLACK electrical connector.
  5. Cut off all of the old heat element harness (11) from the seat cushion trim cover.

    6. Important: Ensure the heat element is laying flat with no wrinkles on the seat cushion pad.

  6. Install the seat cushion cover. Refer to Seat Cushion Replacement -- Front in the Seats sub-section of the Service Manual.
  7. Ensure the seat heat function is operational.

Seat Back Heat Element Replacement -- Front

For 1995-1999 Aurora and Riviera


    Object Number: 650474 Size: SH
  1. Remove the seat back cover. Refer to Seat Back Cover and Pad Replacement -- Front in the Seats sub-section of the Service Manual.
  2. Install the seat heat element (Aurora shown).
    3. • Remove the paper from the tape that is located on the back of the heat element.
    • Carefully position and press the heat element (1) onto the seat back cushion pad (2).
    • Tuck the narrow connecting strips into the seat back cushion pad trenches.
  3. Insert the seat heat element harness through a hole located in the right rear corner of the seat cushion trim cover and the seat cushion pad.

    4. Object Number: 650475 Size: SH
  4. Connect the seat heat element GREEN electrical connector to the Heat Module GREEN electrical connector.
  5. Cut off all of the old heat element harness (3) from the seat back trim cover.

    6. Important: Ensure the heat element is laying flat with no wrinkles on the seat back cushion pad.

  6. Install the seat back cover. Refer to Seat Back Cover and Pad Replacement -- Front in the Seats sub-section of the Service Manual.
  7. Ensure the seat heat function is operational.

Seat Cushion Heat Element Replacement -- Front

For 1995-1999 Aurora and Riviera


    Object Number: 650476 Size: SH
  1. Remove the seat cushion cover. Refer to Seat Cushion Cover Replacement -- Front in the Seats sub-section of the Service Manual.
  2. Install the seat heat element (Aurora shown).
    3. • Remove the paper from the tape that is located on the back of the heat element.
    • Carefully position and press the heat element (4) onto the seat cushion pad (5).
    • Tuck the narrow connecting strips into the seat cushion pad trenches.
  3. Insert the seat heat element harness (6) through a hole located in the right rear corner of the seat cushion pad (5).

  4. Connect the seat heat element BLACK electrical connector to the Heat Module BLACK electrical connector.
  5. Cut off all of the old heat element harness (7) from the seat cushion trim cover.

  6. Install the seat cushion cover. Refer to Seat Cushion Cover Replacement -- Front in the Seats sub-section of the Service Manual.
  7. Ensure the seat heat function is operational.
