Tools Required
- Inspect the sprocket.
 
- Inspect the keyway and the threads.
 
- Inspect the bearing surfaces and the lobes for damage.
 
- Replace the camshaft if the camshaft is damaged. Do not attempt
to repair the camshaft.
 
- Measure the bearing journals with a micrometer. Measure the diameter.
Measure valve run-out.
 
Replace the camshaft if the bearing journals are out of specification.
- Use the following procedure in order to measure camshaft lift:
 
| 6.1.  | Lubricate the camshaft bearings with GM Camshaft and Lifter Prelube
P/N 1052365 or the equivalent. | 
 
| 6.2.  | Set the camshaft on "V" blocks or between camshaft
centers. | 
 
Install the J 26900-13 
.
| 6.4.  | Measure the camshaft journal run-out. Measure the lobe lift. Replace
the camshaft if the camshaft lift is out of specification. |
