Installation Procedure

Important: NEW A/C compressors are shipped WITHOUT poly-alkylene glycol (PAG) oil.

    Object Number: 282953 Size: SH
  1. If a NEW A/C compressor is being installed, add 60 ml (2 oz) of PAG oil to the A/C compressor.

  2. Object Number: 657573 Size: SH
  3. If reinstalling the OLD A/C compressor perform the following:
  4. 2.1. Drain, measure and record the amount of PAG oil from both the suction and discharge ports and the crankcase in the A/C compressor.
2.2. If the measured amount of PAG oil drained is less than or equal to 60 ml (2 oz), add 60 ml (2 oz) of new, clean PAG oil to the A/C compressor.
2.3. If the measured amount of PAG oil drained is greater than 60 ml (2 oz), add the same amount of new, clean PAG oil to the A/C compressor.
2.4. Install the A/C compressor crankcase oil drain bolt (1) to the replacement A/C compressor.

    Tighten
Tighten the A/C compressor crankcase oil drain bolt to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  5. Install the A/C compressor.

  6. Object Number: 277918 Size: SH

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the two upper A/C compressor mounting bolts.
  8. Tighten
Tighten the A/C compressor upper bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  9. Install the lower A/C compressor mounting bolt.
  10. Tighten
Tighten the A/C compressor lower bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

Important: Lubricate the new sealing washers with mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.

Install the new sealing washers onto the A/C compressor hose assembly.

    Object Number: 277924 Size: SH
  11. Install the A/C compressor hose assembly and bolt to the A/C compressor.
  12. Tighten
Tighten the A/C compressor hose bolt to 33 N·m (24 lb ft).

  13. Install the new sealing washers.
  14. Connect the electrical connector to the A/C compressor.
  15. Install the right side engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement in Body Front End.
  16. Install the lower radiator air baffle assemblies and deflectors. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors in Engine Cooling.
  17. Lower the vehicle.
  18. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  19. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.
  20. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  21. Leak test the filling(s) of the repaired or reinstalled component using J 39400 .
