Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.
  3. Remove the cross vehicle brace, if equipped. Refer to Cross Vehicle Brace Replacement in Body Frond End.
  4. Remove the vacuum brake booster, if equipped with CJ4. Refer to Power Vacuum Brake Booster Replacement in Hydraulic Brakes.

  5. Object Number: 284639  Size: SH
  6. Remove the liquid line/suction line bracket.
  7. Remove the suction hose nut.

  8. Object Number: 379823  Size: SH
  9. Disconnect the suction line nut (3) from the accumulator.

  10. Object Number: 379817  Size: SH
  11. Position the suction line aside at the accumulator.

  12. Object Number: 284638  Size: SH
  13. Remove the suction line block fitting bolt.
  14. Important: Use care when removing the suction line.

  15. Remove the suction line.
  16. Remove and discard the O-ring seals.

Installation Procedure

    Important: The new O-ring seals must be lubricated with mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.

  1. Install the new O-ring seals onto the suction line. Refer to O-Ring Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 284639  Size: SH
  3. Install the suction line.

  4. Object Number: 284638  Size: SH
  5. Install the suction line into the block fitting.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the block fitting bolt.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the suction line block fitting bolt to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  9. Install the suction line nut (3) to the accumulator.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the suction line nut to 47 N·m (35 lb ft).

  11. Install the liquid line/suction line bracket.
  12. Install the vacuum brake booster, if equipped with CJ4. Refer to Power Vacuum Brake Booster Replacement in Hydraulic Brakes.
  13. Install the cross vehicle bracket, if equipped. Refer to Cross Vehicle Brace Replacement in Body Front End.
  14. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.
  15. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  16. Leak test the filling(s) of the repaired or the reinstalled component using J 39400 .
