- Clean the differential case in solvent.
- Inspect the differential case for the following conditions:
| • | Damage to the bolts holes (1) |
| • | Unusual wear, grooves or scoring |
| • | Damaged side bearing flanges (2) |
| • | Worn differential pin bores (3) |

- Clean the pinion gear in solvent.
- Inspect the pinion gear for the following conditions:
| • | Unusual gear teeth wear, pitting or heat discoloration (1) |
| • | Pinion splines for wear, pitting or twisted splines (2) |
| • | Pinion shaft thread condition (3) |
| • | Ensure pinion gear end is not bent or burred over on the end (4) |

- Clean the ring gear in solvent.
- Inspect the ring gear for the following conditions:
| • | Damage to the threaded holes (1) |
| • | Unusual wear or heat discoloration to the gear teeth (2) |

- Clean the pinion flange in solvent.
- Inspect the pinion flange for the following conditions:
| • | Splines for wear, pitting or twisting (1) |
| • | Sealing surface for grooves or pitting (2) |
