Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 858997 Size: SH
  1. Remove the transmission oil level indicator.
  2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Support the transmission using a suitable jack.
  4. Remove the transmission mount nut.

  5. Remove the transmission crossmember bolts/nuts.
  6. Remove the transmission crossmember.

    7. Object Number: 858550 Size: SH
  7. Loosen the left exhaust pipe nuts.

    8. Object Number: 858553 Size: SH
  8. Loosen the right exhaust pipe nuts.

    9. Object Number: 858548 Size: SH
  9. Remove the insulator nuts and insulator from the bracket.
  10. Remove the exhaust pipe hanger bracket bolts and bracket.
  11. Lower the transmission slightly.

    12. Object Number: 396804 Size: SH
  12. Disconnect the transmission oil cooler lines. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection .
  13. Plug the transmission oil cooler line fittings.

  14. Remove the indicator tube nut.

    15. Object Number: 396798 Size: SH
  15. Remove the oil level indicator tube.
  16. Remove the seal from the transmission, if necessary.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 396798 Size: SH
  1. Install a NEW seal to the indicator tube.
  2. Install the oil level indicator tube.

    3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 396797 Size: SH
  3. Install the indicator tube nut.

    4. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 18 N·m (13 lb ft).

  4. Remove the plugs from the transmission oil cooler line fittings.
  5. Connect the transmission oil cooler lines. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection .

    6. Object Number: 858548 Size: SH
  6. Install the exhaust pipe hanger bracket and bolts.

    7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 17 N·m (12 lb ft).

  7. Instal the insulator and nuts to the bracket.

    8. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 17 N·m (12 lb ft).

  8. Tighten the right exhaust pipe nuts.

    9. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).


    Object Number: 858550 Size: SH
  9. Tighten the left exhaust pipe nuts.

    10. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).


    Object Number: 702036 Size: SH
  10. Install the transmission crossmember.
  11. Install the transmission crossmember bolts/nuts.

    12. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts/nuts to 95 N·m (70 lb ft).

  12. Install the transmission mount nut.

    13. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  13. Remove the support from the transmission.
  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Install the transmission oil level indicator.
  16. Fill the transmission to the proper level with DEXRON® III transmission fluid. Refer to Transmission Fluid Check .
