DTC P0712 Non Europe or N. American Emissions

Conditions for Setting the DTC
    • The transmission control module (TCM) detects that the analog-to-digital (A/D) value of the transmission fluid temperature (TFT) sensor signal is less than 10 for 5 minutes continuously after 1 occurrence of this detection. A/D value 10: 24 Mv
    • The TCM does not detect pass criteria achieved.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets
    • TCM will request the illumination of hold lamp and store DTC when TCM detects a failure on the first ignition cycle
    • TCM judges the temperature of the transmission fluid is 200°C (392°F)
    • No lockup control
    • No 4th gear
    • No self-learning control
    • No timing solenoid control N-D

Conditions for Clearing the DTC
    • The TCM turns OFF the hold lamp when no further failures are detected on the next ignition cycles.
    • The scan tool can clear the DTC from the TCM history.
    • The TCM clears the DTC from the TCM history memory after 40 consecutive ignition cycles without fault.
    • The TCM detects the temperature of the transmission fluid is between 0°C (32°F) and 150°C (302°F) for 10 seconds continuously.

  3. With the engine OFF, turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  4. Select Store Freeze Frame/Failure Records from the Diagnostic Trouble Codes Information menu.
  5. Store Freeze Frame/Failure Records.
  6. Select Clear DTC Information from the Diagnostic Trouble Codes Information menu.
  7. Clear DTC Information.
  8. Perform 2 vehicle drive cycles.

Is the hold lamp ON?

  1. Select Request DTC by Status from the Diagnostic Trouble Codes Information menu.
  2. Request DTC by Status.

Is DTC P0712 displayed?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Measure the resistance between the vehicle harness and transmission fluid temperature (TFT) sensor. Refer to Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor Inspection .
  3. Disconnect the transmission control module (TCM) connector and measure the resistance between terminal A11 and A12.

Is the measurement within the specified values?

10°C (50°F)

5.80-7.09 kohms

110°C (230°F)

0.231-0.263 kohms

Repair the temporary connection failure of the connector. Refer to Wiring Harness and Connector Inspection Diagnosis .

  1. Estimate the failure of between the vehicle wiring harness connector and TCM.
  2. Inspect the connector. Refer to Wiring Harness and Connector Inspection Diagnosis .
  3. Inspect the connection condition between the connector.

Is the connection condition OK?

  1. Estimate the failure of between the vehicle harness and TFT sensor.
  2. Disconnect the transaxle harness connector of T/M wire and inspect the resistance between TFT sensor connector terminal 1 and 6.

Is the measurement within the specified values?

10°C (50°F)

5.80-7.09 kohms

110°C (230°F)

0.231-0.263 kohms

  1. Replace the TCM. Refer to Transmission Control Module Replacement .
  2. Perform the reproducing test under user condition after confirming no DTC.

Is DTC displayed?

  1. Estimate the failure of the vehicle wiring harness or between connectors.
  2. Test continuity and short circuit for the vehicle wiring harness and inspect the connection condition between transaxle harness connectors. Refer to Wiring Harness and Connector Inspection Diagnosis .

Is the condition OK?

  1. Estimate the failure of the transmission harness connector wire or between connectors of TFT sensor.
  2. Inspect the fluid temperature. Refer to Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor Inspection .

Is the problem found?

  1. Estimate the failure of the transmission harness connector.
  2. Test continuity and short circuit for the transmission harness connector and inspect the connection condition between connectors. Refer to Wiring Harness and Connector Inspection Diagnosis .

Is the condition OK?

System OK

Replace the TFT sensor. Refer to Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor Inspection .

Conditions for Setting the DTC

  3. Disconnect the transmission control module (TCM) connector and measure the resistance between terminal A11 and A12.

Is the measurement within the specified values?

  1. Estimate the failure of between the vehicle harness and TFT sensor.
  2. Disconnect the transaxle harness connector of T/M wire and inspect the resistance between TFT sensor connector terminal 1 and 6.

Is the measurement within the specified values?

110°C (230°F)

0.231-0.263 kohms

  1. Replace the TCM. Refer to Transmission Control Module Replacement .
  2. Perform the reproducing test under user condition after confirming no DTC.

  1. Estimate the failure of the transmission harness connector.
  2. Test continuity and short circuit for the transmission harness connector and inspect the connection condition between connectors. Refer to Wiring Harness and Connector Inspection Diagnosis .

Replace the TFT sensor. Refer to Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor Replacement .
