 Effort Gauge
Brake pedal travel is the distance the brake pedal moves toward the
floor from a fully released position. Make this check with the brakes cold
 and with tool J 28662 
.
- With the engine off, press and release the brake pedal.
 
- Repeat Step 1 five times in order to exhaust vacuum from
the vacuum booster.
 
-  Measure the distance
from the bottom of the steering wheel to the brake pedal with the brake pedal
 released.
 
-  Apply about 455 N
(100 lbs) on the brake pedal. Use the J 28662 
 .
 
- Measure the distance again.
 
- Subtract the first measurement from the second measurement.
 
- If the brake pedal travel is more than 64 mm (2.5 in),
refer to
