Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 421394 Size: SH

    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  3. Remove the instrument panel accessory trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  4. Remove the upper steering column trim cover (1) mounting screws (2).

  5. Remove the upper steering column trim cover using the following steps:
    6. 5.1. Tilt the upper steering column trim cover upward.
    5.2. Slide the upper steering column trim cover rearward to disengage the locking tabs.

  6. Remove the ignition lock cylinder. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement - On Vehicle .
  7. Remove the lower steering column trim cover from the steering column mounting screws.
  8. Remove the lower steering column trim cover from the steering column.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 371550 Size: SH
  1. Install the lower steering column trim cover to the steering column.
  2. Install the lower steering column trim cover to the steering column mounting screws.
  3. Install the ignition lock cylinder. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement - On Vehicle .

    4. Object Number: 371551 Size: SH
  4. Install the upper steering column trim cover using the following steps:
    5. 4.1. Match the locking tabs on the upper steering column trim cover with the tab slots on the lower steering column trim cover
    4.2. Lower the upper steering column trim cover.
    4.3. Slide the upper steering column trim cover forward until the locking tabs snap into the tab slots.

  5. Install the upper steering column trim cover (1) mounting screws (2).
  6. Install the instrument panel accessory trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
  7. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  8. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
