Notice: Use a piston ring expander to install the piston rings. The rings may
be damaged if expanded more than necessary.
- Remove the piston rings (1) from the piston (3) using a piston
ring expander (2). Place each ring in a clean shop towel for storage.
- Rotate the piston pin retainer until the
ring end gap is positioned in the cutout area (1) of the pin bore.
- Remove the retainers starting in the cutout
area of the pin bore.
Important: The piston and pin are a matched set and
are not to be serviced separately. Use a paint or marker pen and mark the orientation
of the piston to the connecting rod and the bore number from which it was removed.
- Remove the pin from the piston and connecting rod.
