Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: Refer to Safety Glasses Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Remove the shift control assembly. Refer to Shift Control Assembly Replacement .
  2. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement .

    3. Object Number: 1962733 Size: MF
  3. Disconnect the following electrical connectors:
    4. • Backup lamp switch (3).
    • Reverse lockout solenoid (4).
    • Oxygen sensor wiring harness (1 and 2).
  4. Disconnect the clutch slave cylinder. Refer to Clutch Concentric Actuator Cylinder Replacement .
  5. Remove the starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement .

  6. Remove the transmission close out panel to transmission retaining bolt (2).
  7. Remove the transmission close out panel (1) from the transmission.

    8. Object Number: 1957023 Size: SH
  8. Remove the transmission close out panel to transmission retaining bolt (1).
  9. Remove the transmission close out panel (2) from the transmission.

    10. Object Number: 1957016 Size: SH
  10. Remove the transmission to engine block retaining bolts (1)
  11. Remove the transmission from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

    Important: Engage third gear on the transmission to allow for alignment of the input spline of the transmission to the clutch assembly.

  1. Install the transmission to the vehicle.

    2. Object Number: 1957016 Size: SH
  2. Install the transmission to engine block retaining bolts (1)

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 48 N·m (35 lb ft).

  3. Install the transmission close out panel (1) to the transmission.
  4. Install the transmission close out panel to transmission retaining bolt (2).

    5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  5. Install the transmission close out panel (1) to the transmission.
  6. Install the transmission close out panel to transmission retaining bolt (2).

    7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  7. Connect the clutch slave cylinder. Refer to Clutch Concentric Actuator Cylinder Replacement .
  8. Install the starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement .

    9. Object Number: 1962733 Size: MF
  9. Connect the following electrical connectors:
    10. • Backup lamp switch (3).
    • Reverse lockout solenoid (4).
    • Oxygen sensor wiring harness (1 and 2).
  10. Install the shift control assembly to the transmission. Refer to Shift Control Assembly Replacement .
  11. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement .
  12. Check the transmission fluid and fill as necessary. Refer to Transmission Fluid Level Inspection and Transmission Fluid Replacement .
  13. Install the exhaust system. Refer to Exhaust System Replacement .
  14. Lower the vehicle.
