| • | J 35138 Torque
Converter End Play Checking Tool |
- Position the torque converter
(1) on the bench with the flywheel lugs facing down.
- Install J 26900-13
, J 35138
, and J 8001
onto the converter.
- Set the dial indicator to zero.
- Lift J 35138
and
note the dial indicator reading:
| • | The torque converter end play should be 0.5 mm (0.020 in)
or less. |
| • | Replace the converter if the end play is too high |
- Repair the torque converter
(1) if the bolt hole threads are stripped.
- Inspect the converter (1) for the following conditions. Replace
the converter (1) if any of these conditions are discovered:
| • | Overheating: the converter will be blue in color |
| • | Leaking at the weld areas |
| • | Evidence of metal particles in the converter, the oil cooler,
or the cooler pipes |
| • | A damaged converter stator, pump, or turbine |
| • | A damaged or worn converter bushing (2) |
| • | Contaminated fluid due to engine coolant |
