Removal Procedure
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to 
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle 
in General Information.
 
- Support the rear axle independently in order to relieve the tension 
 on the leaf springs.
 
- Remove the trailer hitch if equipped. Refer to 
Trailer Hitch Replacement 
in Frame and Underbody.
 
- Remove the fuel tank for left side applications. Refer to
Fuel Tank Replacement 
 in Engine Controls -4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, or 
Fuel Tank Replacement 
in Engine Controls - 4.3L
or 
Fuel Tank Replacement 
 in Engine Controls
-6.6L, or 
Fuel Tank Replacement 
 in Engine
Controls -8.1L.
 
- Remove the U-bolt nuts.
 
- Remove the U-bolts.
 
- Remove the spring spacer.
 
- Remove the anchor plate.
 
- Remove
the rear spring hanger bracket nut and bolt.
 
- Remove
the front spring bracket bolt.
 
- Remove the leaf spring assembly from the vehicle.
 
Installation Procedure
- Install
the leaf spring assembly to the vehicle.
 
- Install the front spring hanger bracket bolt.
 
- Install the front spring hanger bracket nut.
 
- Install
the rear spring hanger bracket bolt.
 
- Install the rear spring hanger bracket nut.
 
Important: Do not reuse the U-bolts.
- Install the spring spacer.
 
- Install the U-bolts.
 
- Install the anchor plate.
 
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the U-bolt nuts.
 
Tighten
|     •  | For 15 series without rear wheel steering tighten the U-bolt nuts to
72 N·m (53 lb ft). | 
 
|     •  | For all 15 series with rear wheel steering and 15HD/25/35/36 series tighten
the U-bolts to 150 N·m(110 lb ft ) | 
 
|     •  | Tighten the front hanger bracket nut to 150 N·m (110 lb ft). | 
 
|     •  | Tighten the rear hanger bracket nut to 95 N·m (70 lb ft). | 
 
- Install the fuel tank for left side applications. Refer to
Fuel Tank Replacement 
 in Engine Controls- 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, 
or 
Fuel Tank Replacement 
in Engine Controls
- 4.3L, or 
Fuel Tank Replacement 
 in
Engine Controls -6.6L, or 
Fuel Tank Replacement 
 in Engine Controls -8.1L.
 
- Install the trailer hitch, if equipped. Refer to 
Trailer Hitch Replacement 
 in Frame and Underbody.
 
- Remove the rear axle support.
 
- Lower the vehicle.
