- Remove accessory drive belt(s).
 
- Remove the glow plugs.
 
- Rotate crankshaft by hand at the balancer.

Hydraulically locked cylinder

- Inspect for fluid at glow plug hole.
 
- Inspect for broken head gasket(s).
 
- Inspect for cracked engine block or cylinder head.
 
- Inspect for a sticking fuel injector.

Seized automatic transmission torque converter 
 | 
- Remove the engine assembly. The torque converter bolts are not accessible with the engine installed to the transmission.
 
- Rotate crankshaft by hand at the balancer or flywheel location.
 
 
 | 
Seized manual transmission 
 | 
- Disengage the clutch.
 
- Rotate crankshaft by hand at the balancer.

Material in cylinder: 
 | 
- Inspect cylinder for damaged components and/or foreign materials.
 
- Repair or replace as required.

Seized crankshaft or connecting rod bearings

- Inspect crankshaft and connecting rod bearings.
 
- Repair as required.

Bent or broken connecting rod 
 | 
- Inspect connecting rods.
 
- Repair as required.

Broken crankshaft

- Inspect crankshaft.
