Front Housing Disassembly

Tools Required

    • Hydraulic Press
    • J 6125-1B Slide Hammer
    • J 23907 Slide Hammer with Pilot Bearing Puller
    • J 36183 Input Shaft Press Tube with Cap
    • J 36184 Adapter Press Tube Reducer
    • J 36507 Detent Brushing Remover/Installer
    • J 36510 Clutch Fork Pivot Remover/Installer
    • J 36511 Oil Fill Plug Hex Bit (17 mm)
    • J 36800 Shift Rail Bushing Remover

Important: Do not reuse any of the bushings which are removed in this procedure.


    Object Number: 4837 Size: SH
  1. Press out the input shaft bearing. Use the following tools:
    2. • A hydraulic press
    • J 36183
    • J 36184

    Object Number: 5226 Size: SH
  2. Remove the shift shaft front housing bushing. Use tool J 36800 and tool J 23907 .

    3. Object Number: 4841 Size: SH
  3. Remove two detent lever bushings.
    4. • If necessary, use tool J 36507 .
    • Remove one bushing at a time.

    Object Number: 4842 Size: SH
  4. Remove the transmission housing vent assembly.

    5. Do not remove the metal tube from the housing.

  5. Remove the oil fill plug. Use J 36511 .

    6. Object Number: 4843 Size: SH
  6. Remove the oil drain plug. Use J 36511 .
  7. Remove the gasket material from the housing. Use a liquid gasket remover.
