1. Clean the camshaft bearing bores in the block.
2. Inspect the camshaft bearings for damage. Replace as necessary.
3. Inspect the camshaft lobes and the journals for damage. Minor irregularities may be cleaned up with an emery cloth.

Important: Whenever the camshaft needs to be replaced, a new set of valve roller lifters must also be installed.

1. Measure the camshaft journal diameters using a micrometer. Refer to Engine Mechanical Specifications .



2. Measure the camshaft runout.

2.1.	Mount the camshaft in V-blocks or between centers.

2.2.	Use the J 7872 in order to check the intermediate camshaft journal.

2.3.	The camshaft runout should not exceed 0.051 mm (0.002 in).
