J 7872 Magnetic Base Dial Indicator

1. Important: Install new valve lifters when installing a new camshaft.

2. Inspect the camshaft lobes and the journals for the following conditions:

•

Scratches

•

Pitting

•

Scoring

•

Wear

3. Inspect the thrust bearing for wear and scoring.

1. Use a micrometer to measure the camshaft journal diameters. Refer to Engine Mechanical Specifications .
2. Measure the camshaft runout.
3. Mount the camshaft in V-blocks or between centers.
4. Using the J 7872 , check the intermediate camshaft journal. Refer to Engine Mechanical Specifications .
5. If the camshaft is excessively bent, replace the camshaft and all camshaft bearings.
