- Clean the camshaft timing
components in solvent.
 
Caution: Wear safety glasses in order to avoid eye damage.
- Dry the components with compressed air.
 
- Inspect the camshaft timing chain for binding or wear.
 
Important: If the sprocket(s) must be replaced, replace both sprockets to ensure
that timing chain centerline alignment is maintained.
- Inspect the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets for the following conditions:
 
| •  | Uneven wear on one edge of the teeth | 
 
| •  | Worn valleys between the sprocket teeth | 
 
| •  | Crankshaft sprocket keyway for wear | 
 
| •  | Crankshaft sprocket key for wear or damage | 
 
Important: If the crankshaft sensor reluctor ring is removed from the crankshaft,
a new crankshaft sensor reluctor ring must be installed.
- Inspect the crankshaft position reluctor ring the following conditions:
