Diagnostic Aids

If the panel actuator fuse is open, test for shorts to ground in all of the following before replacing the panel actuator fuse:

•	Each of the access panel relay voltage supply circuits

•	Each of the access panel actuator release control circuits

•	Each of the access panel actuators for internal shorts

Test Description

The number below refers to the step number on the diagnostic table.

An open fuse in this step may have been caused by a short to ground in any of the 3 access panel relay voltage supply or release actuator control circuits or a shorted access panel actuator. Refer to Diagnostic Aids.

2	Activate each access panel function using the buttons on the key fob. Did any of the panels open?	Go to Step 3	Go to Step 4
3	Did all the access panels open?	Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems	Go to One Access Panel Inoperative
4	With a scan tool, observe the Access Panel Output parameter in the body control module (BCM) Data List. Press each button on the transmitter one at a time. Does the output state change when each button is pressed?	Go to Step 10	Go to Step 5
5	With a scan tool, observe the Key Fob Information parameter in the remote function actuation data list. Press each access panel button on the transmitter one at a time. Does the Scan Tool Data parameter show that the correct button was pressed?	Go to Step 14	Go to Step 6
6	Important: Inspect that the keyless entry transmitter is the correct model for the vehicle remote system. A wrong model transmitter may pass this test, but will not activate the vehicle remote system. Turn ON the J 43241 Keyless Entry Tester. Place the transmitter on the J 43241 test pad. Press each button of the transmitter one at a time. Does a tone sound and the green light illuminate on the J 43241 after each button is pressed?	Go to Step 13	Go to Step 7
7	Do any of the buttons on the transmitter sound the tone and illuminate the green light when pressed?	Go to Step 12	Go to Step 8
8	Replace the transmitter battery. Refer to Transmitter Battery Replacement in Keyless Entry. Did you complete the replacement?	Go to Step 9	--
9	Turn ON the J 43241 . Place the transmitter on the J 43241 test pad. Press each button of the transmitter one at a time. Does a tone sound and the green light illuminate on the J 43241 after each button is pressed?	Go to Step 16	Go to Step 12
10	Remove any of the access panel relays. Connect a test lamp between the access panel relay coil supply circuit and ground. Did the test lamp illuminate?	Go to Step 14	Go to Step 11
11	Repair the access panel relay coil supply circuit for a short to ground or an open. Refer to Testing for Short to Ground and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems. Did you complete the repair?	Go to Step 16	--
12	Replace the transmitter. Did you complete the replacement?	Go to Step 13	--
13	Perform the programming procedure. Refer to Transmitter Programming . Did the scan tool indicate that the transmitter programmed properly?	Go to Step 16	Go to Step 15
14	Replace the BCM. Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming. Did you complete the replacement?	Go to Step 16	--
15	Replace the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR). Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming. Did you complete the replacement?	Go to Step 16	--
16	Operate the system in order to verify the repair. Did you correct the condition?	System OK	Go to Step 2
