- Clean the transmission
 case in a suitable solvent and air dry.
 
- Clean all sealant material from the retainer bolt threads.
 
Notice:  Do not nick, scratch or damage the sealing surface. The
sealing surface is a machined surface. Damage to the machined surface can
cause leakage.
- Clean all sealant material from the case sealing surfaces.
 
- Inspect the transmission case for the following conditions:
 
| •  | Nicked mounting surfaces | 
 
| •  | Damaged sealing surfaces | 
 
- Inspect the bearing races and bores for wear, scratches or grooves.
 
- With a straight edge, inspect the machined sealing surfaces for
flatness.
 
- Use a soft stone to dress minor scratches or burrs on the sealing
 surfaces. Do not use a file.
 
- If scratches, grooves or scoring cannot be removed by hand with
 a soft stone, replace the component.
 
- With the correct size tap, clean damaged threads.
 
- Replace a cracked housing.
