Step Replacement Fuel Tank Mounted

1. Remove the upper step to the fuel tank bolts and washers.
2. Remove the fuel tank cap. If you do not remove the fuel tank cap, the cap lanyard prevents the removal of the upper step.
3. Remove the upper step from the fuel tank.
4. Install the fuel tank cap.



5. Remove the bolts, the washers, and the nuts from the lower step bracket.
6. Remove the lower step from the brackets.
7. Remove the fuel tank cap.

1. Remove the fuel tank cap.
2. Install the upper step to the tank.
3. Install the fuel tank cap.
4. Install the upper step to fuel tank bolts and washers.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.




5. Use the bolts, the washers, and the nuts in order to install the lower step to the brackets.

Tighten

•	Tighten the upper step fuel tank bolts to 39 N·m (29 lb ft).

•	Tighten the nuts that secure the lower step to the bracket to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

Step Replacement Frame Mounted

1. Remove the step bolts, nuts, and washers.

•	If equipped, remove the auxiliary air tank. Refer to Auxiliary Air Compressor Replacement.

•	If equipped, remove the evaporative emission (EVAP) canisters. Refer to Evaporative Emission Canister Replacement.

2. Remove the step from the support.
3. Remove the bolts, the washers, and the nuts from the frame rail to support.
4. Remove the supports from the vehicle.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.




1. Install the bolts, the washers, and the nuts to the frame rail.

Tighten
Tighten the support to frame rail nuts to 165 N·m (122 lb ft).

2. Install the step to the supports with the nuts and bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the step to support nuts to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).

•	If equipped, install the auxiliary air tank. Refer to Auxiliary Air Compressor Replacement.

•	If equipped, install the EVAP canisters. Refer to Evaporative Emission Canister Replacement.
