Special Tools
    • J 46406 Fan Clutch Remover and Installer
    • J 41240-5A Fan Clutch Wrench

Removal Procedure
  1. Remove the air cleaner. Refer to the appropriate procedure:
    2. •  Air Cleaner Replacement for the 6.6L (LLY) engine
    •  Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement for the 6.6L (LMM) engine
    •  Air Cleaner Replacement for the 7.2L (Caterpillar) engine
    •  Air Cleaner Replacement for the 7.8L engine
    •  Air Cleaner Replacement for the 8.1L engine
  2. Remove the fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement.

    3. Object Number: 209240 Size: SH
  3. Install the J 46406 in order to secure the pulley.
  4. Remove the fan clutch assembly (2), using the J 41240-5A .
  5. Inspect the following components for cracks, distortion, or other damage:
    6. • The belt
    • The hub
    • The adapter
    • The pulley
  6. Remove the bolts from the fan clutch.
  7. Separate the fan clutch from the fan blade.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 209240 Size: SH
  1. Install the fan clutch (2) to the fan blade (1).

    2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  2. Install the bolts to the fan clutch.

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  3. Using the J 41240-5A , install the fan clutch assembly to the pulley.
  4. Install the J 46406 in order to secure the pulley.

    5. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 145 N·m (107 lb ft).

  5. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement for the 6.6L (LLY) engine.
  6. Install the fan shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement .
  7. Install the air cleaner. Refer to the appropriate procedure:
    8. •  Air Cleaner Replacement for the 6.6L (LLY) engine
    •  Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement for the 6.6L (LMM) engine
    •  Air Cleaner Replacement for the 7.2L (Caterpillar) engine
    •  Air Cleaner Replacement for the 7.8L engine
    •  Air Cleaner Replacement for the 8.1L engine
