Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection C 6/7/8

Warning: Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning in the Preface section.

1. Turn off all the lamps and accessories.
2. Turn the ignition OFF.



3. Remove the battery ground negative cable and bolt from the battery.

Caution: Refer to Component Fastener Tightening Caution in the Preface section.





Note: Clean any existing corrosion from the battery terminal bolt flange and the battery cable end.

1. Install the battery ground negative cable and bolt to the battery.

Tighten
Tighten the battery terminal bolt to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

2. Set the clock to the current time and program the customer's preferred radio stations.

Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection C4/C5 - Diesel Engine

Warning: Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning in the Preface section.

1. Turn off all the lamps and accessories.
2. Turn the ignition OFF.
3. Remove the battery tray stop bolts.



4. Slide out the battery tray.



5. If equipped with dual batteries perform the following steps, otherwise proceed the step 9.
6. Remove the negative battery cable nut (3).
7. Remove the negative battery cable (6) from the first battery.
8. Remove the negative battery cable (5) from the first battery.



9. If equipped with triple batteries, remove the negative battery cable nuts (8 and 3).
10. Remove the negative battery cable (7) from the first battery.
11. Remove the negative battery cable (6) from the first and second batteries.
12. Remove the negative battery cable (5) from the second battery.

Note: Clean any existing corrosion from the battery terminal bolt flange and the battery cable end.

1. If equipped with dual batteries perform the following steps, otherwise proceed the step 5.
2. Install the negative battery cable (5) to the first battery.
3. Install the negative battery cable (6) to the first battery.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

4. Install the negative battery cable nut (3).

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).




5. If equipped with triple batteries, install the negative battery cable (5) to the second battery.
6. Install the negative battery cable (6) to the first and second batteries.
7. Install the negative battery cable (7) to the first battery.
8. Install the negative battery cable nuts (8 and 3).

Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).




9. Slide in the battery tray.



10. Install the battery tray stop bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 80 N·m (60 lb ft).

Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection C4/C5 - Gas Engine

Warning: Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning in the Preface section.

1. Turn off all the lamps and accessories.
2. Turn the ignition OFF.
3. Remove the battery tray stop bolts.



4. Slide out the battery tray.



5. If equipped with a single battery perform the following steps, otherwise proceed the step 9.
6. Open the negative battery cable cover (2).
7. Loosen the negative battery cable bolt (1).
8. Reposition the negative battery cable from the battery.



9. If equipped with dual batteries, remove the negative battery cable nut (2).
10. Remove the negative battery cable (3) from the first battery.
11. Remove the negative battery cable (5) from the first battery.

Note: Clean any existing corrosion from the battery terminal mount and the battery cable end.

1. If equipped with a single battery perform the following steps, otherwise proceed the step 5.
2. Position the negative battery cable to the battery.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

3. Tighten the negative battery cable bolt (1).

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

4. Close the negative battery cable cover (2).



5. If equipped with dual batteries, install the negative battery cable (5) to the first battery.
6. Install the negative battery cable (3) to the first battery.
7. Install the negative battery cable nut (2).

Tighten
Tighten the nut to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).




8. Slide in the battery tray.



9. Install the battery tray stop bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 80 N·m (60 lb ft).
