One-Piece Rear Propeller Shaft Replacement One Piece-Rear

1. Block the wheels.
2. Support the propeller shaft.
3. Mark the universal joints and slip joints with alignment marks.
4. Remove the propeller shaft guards, if equipped.
5. Remove propeller shaft half round end yoke bolts.



6. Remove the propeller shaft from the brake drum.
7. Remove the propeller shaft.

1. Install NEW universal joints to the propeller shaft. Refer to Universal Joint Replacement and Universal Joint Replacement - External Snap Ring.
2. Support the propeller shaft sections in the installed position.
3. Install the slip yoke assembly to the installed propeller shaft splined end. Refer to Slip Joint Replacement.
4. Install the front propeller shaft to the brake drum.
5. Keep the alignment marks together.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.




6. Install and tighten the propeller shaft half round end yoke bolts. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications.
7. Inspect the propeller shaft for alignment and phasing.
8. Install the propeller shaft guards, if equipped.
9. Lubricate the universal joints and the slip joints. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations.
10. Remove the wheel blocks.

One-Piece Rear Propeller Shaft Replacement One Piece-FRX

1. Block the wheels.
2. Mark the universal joints and slip joints with alignment marks.
3. Remove the propeller shaft guards, if equipped.
4. Remove propeller shaft retainer bolts (3) and retainers (4).



5. Remove the propeller shaft transfer case flange bolts (1).
6. Remove the propeller shaft (2).

1. Install NEW universal joints to the propeller shaft. Refer to Universal Joint Replacement - External Snap Ring.
2. Install the propeller shaft to the transfer case and rear axle.
3. Keep the alignment marks together.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.




4. Install the transfer case flange bolts (1).

Tighten
Tighten to 97 N·m (72 lb ft).

5. Install the propeller shaft retainer (4) and bolts (3).

Tighten
Tighten to 66 N·m (49 lb ft).

6. Install the propeller shaft guards, if equipped.
7. Lubricate the universal joints and the slip joints. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations.
8. Remove the wheel blocks.
