DEFINITION: The following items are indications of chirping:

    • A high pitched noise that is often heard once per revolution of the drive belt or a pulley.
    • It usually occurs on cold damp mornings.
    • Verify the condition by spraying water on the belt. The noise should stop momentarily.

       Important: Do not use drive belt dressing (adhesion enhancement chemical) or any other chemical on the drive belt.

Check for misalignment of the pulleys.

Are any of the pulleys misaligned?

Replace any misaligned pulleys.

Check for bent or cracked brackets.

Are there any bent or cracked brackets?

Check for any loose or missing fasteners.

Are there any loose or missing fasteners?

Tighten any loose fasteners.

Replace any missing fasteners. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .

Check for a bent pulley flange.

Is there a bent pulley flange?

Replace the pulley.

Check for severe pilling, exceeding 1/3 of the belt groove depth.

Is there severe pilling?
