Headlining Trim Panel Replacement Impala

Remover
Removal Procedure
Caution: Do not attempt to repair or alter the head impact energy-absorbing material
glued to the headliner or to the garnish trims. If the material is damaged, replace
the headliner and/or the garnish trim. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.
- Remove the sunshades. Refer  to 
Sunshade Replacement 
.
 
- Remove the sunshade anchors. Refer to 
Sunshade Anchor Replacement 
.
 
- Remove the dome lamp, if equipped. Refer to 
Dome Lamp Replacement 
.
 
- Remove the assist handles, if equipped. Refer to 
Front Assist Handle Replacement 
 and 
Roof Rail Rear Assist Handle Replacement 
.
 
- Remove the coat hook. Refer to 
Coat Hook Replacement 
.
 
- Remove the side rail lamps, if equipped. Refer to 
Roof Side Rail Lamp Replacement 
.
 
- Remove the windshield pillar garnish molding. Refer to 
Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement 
.
 
- Remove the windshield rear view mirror electrical connector.
 
- Remove the center pillar, upper trim panel. Refer to 
Center Pillar Upper Trim Panel Replacement 
.
 
- Remove the rear seatback. Refer to 
Rear Seat Back Replacement 
 in Seats.
 
- Remove the upper quarter trim panels. Refer to 
Rear Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement 
.
 
- Remove the rear window trim panel. Refer to 
Rear Window Shelf Trim Panel Replacement 
.
 
- Remove the push-in retainers from the rear of the headliner using J 38778 
. With the aid of an assistant,
support the  front of the headliner.
 
- Disconnect the headliner electrical harness
connector  and the ground wire.
 
- Remove the headliner wiring harness from the inner roof panel.
 
- Recline the front seats in order to aid in the removal of the headliner
 from the vehicle.
 
- Move the console shifter all the way back to the number 1 position.
 
- For the headliner without the sunroof, remove the headliner from the roof
 insulator pad, using a flat-bladed tool to cut through the glue bonding the headliner
 to the roof insulator pad.
 
- For the headliner with the sunroof, remove the headliner from the sunroof
 module by disengaging the Velcro™ strips (1).
 
- With the aid of an assistant, remove the headliner from the vehicle through
 the right front door.
 
Installation Procedure
Important: Excessive bending can deform the headliner during the installation. Use care
 when loading the headliner into the vehicle.
- With the aid of an assistant, move the headliner into the vehicle through the
 right front door.
 
- Position the headliner to the roof by aligning the sunshade holes in the
 headliner with the respective hole in the roof structure.
 
- Connect the headliner electrical connector and the ground wire.
 
- Install the headliner wiring harness to the inner roof panel.
 
- Install the front assist handle, if equipped. Refer to 
Front Assist Handle Replacement 
.
 
- Install the sunshades. Refer to 
Sunshade Replacement 
.
 
- Install the sunshade anchors. Refer to 
Sunshade Anchor Replacement 
.
 
- Install the rear assist handles, if equipped. Refer to
Roof Rail Rear Assist Handle Replacement 
.
 
- Install the 2 rear push-in retainers to the rear of the headliner.
 
- For the headliner with the sunroof, install the headliner to the sunroof
 module by engaging the Velcro™ strips (1).
 
- Install the rear window trim panel. Refer to 
Rear Window Shelf Trim Panel Replacement 
.
 
- Install the rear quarter upper trim panels. Refer to 
Rear Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement 
.
 
- Install the center pillar, upper trim panel. Refer to 
Center Pillar Upper Trim Panel Replacement 
.
 
- Install the windshield pillar garnish molding. Refer to 
Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement 
.
 
- Install the side rail lamps, if equipped. Refer to 
Roof Side Rail Lamp Replacement 
.
 
- Install the coat hook. Refer to 
Coat Hook Replacement 
.
 
- Install the dome lamp, if equipped. Refer to 
Dome Lamp Replacement 
.
 
- Install the rear seat back. Refer to

Removal Procedure

- Remove the sunshades. Refer to

- Remove the overhead console, if equipped. Refer to

.
 
- Remove the dome lamp. Refer to 
Dome Lamp Replacement 
 in Lighting  Systems.
 
- Remove the assist handle. Refer to 
Front Assist Handle Replacement 
.
 
- Disconnect the electrical connector from the rear view mirror.
 
- Remove the windshield pillar garnish molding. Refer to 
Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement 
.
 
- Remove the rear seat back. Refer to 
Rear Seat Back Replacement 
 in Seats.
 
- Remove the rear window trim panel. Refer to 
Rear Window Shelf Trim Panel Replacement 
.
 
- Remove the upper quarter trim panel. Refer to 
Rear Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement 
.
 
- Remove the push-in retainers from the rear of the headliner using J 38778 
, with the aid of an assistant,
support the  front of the headliner.
 
- Disconnect the headliner electrical harness
connector  and the ground wire, which are located under the right side of the window
trim panel.
 
- Remove the headliner wiring harness from the inner roof panel.
 
- Recline the front seats in order to aid in the removal of the headliner
 from the vehicle.
 
- For the headliner with the sunroof, remove the headliner from the sunroof
 module by disengaging the Velcro™ strips (1).
 
- For the headliner without the sunroof, remove the headliner  from the
roof insulator pad, using a flat-bladed tool to cut through the glue bonding  the
headliner to the roof insulator pad.
 
- With the aid of an assistant, remove the headliner from the vehicle through
 the right front door.
 
Installation Procedure
Important: Excessive bending can deform the headliner during the installation. Use care
 when loading the headliner into the vehicle.
- With the aid of an assistant, move the headliner into the vehicle through the
 right front door.

- Connect the electrical connector to the rear view mirror.

- Install the sunshade anchors. Refer to
