Removal Procedure
- Remove the engine mount struts from the engine. Refer to 
Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Left Side 
 and 
Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Right Side 
 in Engine  Mechanical-3.4L.
 
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to 
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle 
 in General Information.
 
- Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation 
 in Tire and Wheels.
 
- Place a drain pan under the vehicle.
 
Notice: The front wheels of the vehicle must be maintained in the straight ahead
position and the steering column must be in the LOCK position before disconnecting
the steering column or intermediate shaft. Failure to follow these procedures
will cause improper alignment of some components during installation and result
in damage to the SIR coil assembly.
- Remove the intermediate steering shaft from the power steering
gear  stub shaft. Refer to 
Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement 
 in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt. 
 
- Use a utility stand in order to support the frame.
 
- Remove the frame bolts from the rear of the frame. Refer to 
Frame Replacement 
 in Frame and Underbody.
 
Notice: Do not lower the rear of the frame too far as damage to the engine components
nearest to the cowl may result.
- Use the utility stand in order to lower the rear of the frame  to gain
access.
 
- Remove the power steering return hose from the power steering  pump to
the power steering cooler pipe.
 
- Remove the power steering return line from the power steering  gear. Refer
to 
Power Steering Return Hose Replacement 
.
 
- Remove the power steering return line from the clamp on the power  steering
gear.
 
- Remove the power steering cooler pipe retaining clips.
 
- Remove the power steering cooler pipe from the vehicle.
 
Installation Procedure
- Install the power steering cooler pipe to the vehicle.
 
- Install
the power steering  cooler pipe retaining clips.
 
- Install the power steering return line to the power steering gear.  Refer
to 
Power Steering Return Hose Replacement 
.
 
- Install the power steering return line to the clamp on the power  steering
gear.
 
- Install the power steering return hose from the power steering  pump to
the power steering cooler pipe.
 
- Use the utility stand in order to raise the frame.
 
- Install NEW frame bolts to the rear of the frame. Refer to 
Frame Replacement 
 in Frame and Underbody.
 
- Install the intermediate steering shaft to the power steering  gear stub
shaft. Refer to
Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement 
 in Steering Wheel and Column.
 
- Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation 
in Tire and Wheels.
 
- Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.
 
- Lower the vehicle.
 
- Install the engine mount struts to the engine. Refer to 
Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Left Side 
 and 
Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Right Side 
 in Engine  Mechanical-3.4L.
 
- Fill the power steering fluid reservoir. Refer to 
Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid 
.
 
- Bleed the power steering system. Refer to 
Power Steering System Bleeding 
.
 
- Inspect the power steering system for leaks. Refer to 
Power Steering Fluid Leaks
