Special Tools

1. Clean the bed plate sealing surface.
2. Clean the engine block sealing surface.
3. Clean the bed plate tightening bolts.
4. Clean the bed plate bolt holes.

1. Coat the crankshaft bearing with engine oil.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

2. Install the oil nozzle tube.

Tighten
Tighten the oil nozzle tube retaining bolts to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).




3. If replacing the crankshaft, transfer the CPS target wheel to the new crankshaft.

Tighten
Tighten the CPS target wheel tightening bolts to 12 N·m (8.9 lb ft).




4. Install the crankshaft with the journal bearings.
5. Coat the sealant (Hylomar 3000) on the bed plate sealing surface.
6. Install the bed plate.

Tighten

•	Tighten the bed plate inner bolts to 25  N·m (18.4 lb ft). Using KM-470-B , tighten bed plate inner bolts another 45 degrees plus 90 degrees.

•	Tighten the bed plate outer bolts to 35  N·m (25.8 lb ft).

•	Tighten the engine block ground bolt to 25 N·m (18.4 lb ft).

•	Tighten the transaxle tightening bolt (bed plate-to-transaxle bolt) to 75 N·m (55.3 lb ft).




7. Inspect the crankshaft end play with the crankshaft bearings installed. Refer to Engine Mechanical Specifications.



8. Coat the piston and the rings with engine oil.
9. Insert the piston and connecting rod using EN-48249 .



10. Install the connecting rod cap bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the connecting rod cap bolts to 25  N·m (18.4 lb ft). Using the KM-470-B , tighten the connecting rod cap bolts another 90 degrees.

11. Inspect the connecting rod end play. Refer to Engine Mechanical Specifications.



12. Install the crankshaft rear seal ring with new one using EN-48251 .



13. Install the A/C compressor and generator bracket.

Tighten
Tighten the A/C compressor and generator bracket bolts to 35 N·m (25.8 lb ft).




14. Install the flywheel or flexible plate.

Tighten
Tighten the flywheel or flexible plate tightening bolts to 105 N·m (77.4 lb ft).
