Tools Required

1. Use a J 22912-01 and a press in order to remove the governor drive gear.



2. Remove the bearing cage from the drive pinion.
3. Remove the O-ring from the bearing cage.



4. Use J 22912-01 and a press in order to remove the following components:

•	The pinion bearing

•	The outer race of the drive pinion shaft




5. Use J 26941 in order to remove the outer race from the bearing cage.
6. Use J 29369-2 in order to remove both oil seals from the cage.



7. Use J 22912-01 and a press in order to remove the counter driven gear.

1. Use J 35661 and J 8092 in order to install the counter driven gear bearing.



2. Use J 35664 in order to install the pinion bearing.



3. Use J 29182 and J 8092 in order to install a new outer race into the bearing cage.



4. Use J 35666 in order to install the inner oil seal.

Set the lip of the new oil seal facing downward.

Coat the lip of the seal with GM P/N 1050169 grease.




5. Install the inner oil seal press and the press to a depth of 9.5  mm (0.374 inch).

(Measure this depth from the flat end.)

6. Use the J 35666 in order to install the outer new seal:

6.1.	Place the outer new seal so that the lip is facing upward.

6.2.	Press in the installer until its end is flush with the surface of the cage.

7. Install a new O-ring into the bearing cage.
8. Place the bearing cage onto the drive pinion shaft.

Do not damage the oil seal with the splines.




9. Install the governor drive gear.
