J 41798 Engine Lift Bracket

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
2. Drain the engine oil.
3. Drain the cooling system.
4. Lower the vehicle.
5. Remove the hood assembly. Refer to Hood Replacement in Body Front End.
6. Remove the engine control module (ECM) and bracket. Refer to Engine Control Module Replacement in Engine Controls - 6.0L.
7. Evacuate the air conditioning system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
8. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 6.0L
9. Remove the upper tie bar. Refer to Front End Upper Tie Bar Replacement in Body Front End.
10. Remove the radiator, A/C condenser, and cooling fan assembly. Refer to Radiator Replacement in Engine Cooling.
11. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement - Accessory .
12. Remove the A/C compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
13. Remove the ground wire from the engine to the frame.
14. Remove the radiator hoses.

•	For the radiator inlet hose, refer to Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement in Engine Cooling.

•	For the radiator outlet hose, refer to Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement in Engine Cooling.

15. Remove the heater hoses.

•	For the heater inlet hose, refer to Heater Inlet Hose Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.

•	For the heater outlet hose, refer to Heater Outlet Hose Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.

16. Remove the surge tank assembly. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement in Engine Cooling.



17. Remove the ignition coils. Refer to Ignition Coil Replacement in Engine Controls - 6.0L.
18. Remove the generator mounting bracket. Refer to Generator Bracket Replacement in Engine Electrical.
19. Remove the intake manifold assembly. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
20. Remove the electrical connector for the oil pressure sensor.
21. Relocate the engine wiring harness to the side and secure.
22. Remove the exhaust manifolds.

•	For the left exhaust manifold, refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Left Side in Engine Exhaust.

•	For the right exhaust manifold, refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Right Side in Engine Exhaust.

23. Remove the catalytic convertors. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
24. Remove the starter assembly. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement in Engine Electrical.



25. Remove the ground wires (1, 2) and retaining bolts (3, 4) from the engine block.



26. Disconnect the electrical connector for the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor.



27. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor (1).



28. Disconnect the electrical connector (1) for the left knock sensor (3).



29. Disconnect the electrical connector (3) for the right knock sensor (2).
30. Disconnect the electrical connector for the camshaft sensor.



31. Remove the wiring harness from the front of the engine.
32. Remove the transmission assembly.

•	For vehicles equipped with the 4L60-E automatic transmission, refer to Transmission Replacement in Automatic Transmission - 4L60-E/4L65-E.

•	For vehicles equipped with the Tremec 6-Speed transmission, refer to Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission - Tremec 6-Speed .




33. Remove the transmission cooling lines in front the side of the engine, automatic transmission only.



34. Remove the transmission lines from the rear of the engine, automatic transmissions only.
35. Remove, relocate, and secure the wiring harness at the rear of the engine.



36. Remove the left lower motor mounts retaining nuts.
37. Lower the vehicle.
38. Install the J 41798 to the engine.
39. Remove the right front shock. Refer to Shock Absorber and Spring Assembly Replacement in Front Suspension.



40. Remove the motor mount to frame bolts.
41. Using the appropriate engine hoist, remove the engine assembly from the vehicle.
42. Install the engine assembly on the appropriate engine stand.

1. Remove the engine from the engine stand.
2. Position the engine in the vehicle.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.




3. Install the right motor mount to frame bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the right motor mount to frame bolts to 100 N·m (74 lb ft).

4. Install the right shock module. Refer to Shock Absorber and Spring Assembly Replacement in Front Suspension.
5. Remove the hoist.
6. Remove the J 41798 from the engine.
7. Install the exhaust manifolds.

•	For the left exhaust manifold, refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Left Side in Engine Exhaust.

•	For the right exhaust manifold, refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Right Side in Engine Exhaust.

8. Install the transmission assembly.

•	For vehicles equipped with the 4L60-E automatic transmission, refer to Transmission Replacement in Automatic Transmission - 4L60-E/4L65-E.

•	For vehicles equipped with the Tremec 6-Speed transmission, refer to Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission - Tremec 6-Speed.




9. Install the left lower motor mount retaining nuts.

Tighten
Tighten the left motor mount nuts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).




10. Remove the wiring harness from the front of the engine.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

11. Reconnect the electrical connector for the camshaft sensor.



12. Reconnect the CKP sensor.



13. Reconnect the electrical connector (3) for the right knock sensor (2).
14. Install the starter assembly (4).



15. Reconnect the electrical connector (1) for the left knock sensor (3).



16. Install the ground terminal bolt (2).

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

17. Reconnect the ECT sensor (1).



18. Install the ground wires (1, 2) and retaining bolts (3, 4) to the engine block.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).




19. Install the transmission cooling lines in the front side of the engine, automatic transmission only.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).




20. Install the transmission lines from the rear of the engine, automatic transmissions only.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

21. Install the catalytic convertors. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
22. Install the A/C compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
23. Lower the vehicle.
24. Connect the oil pressure sensor.
25. Install the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
26. Position the engine wiring harness on the engine.
27. Install the generator mounting bracket. Refer to Generator Bracket Replacement in Engine Electrical.
28. Install the ignition coils. Refer to Ignition Coil Replacement in Engine Controls - 6.0L.
29. Install the surge tank. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement in Engine Cooling.
30. Install the heater hoses.

•	For the heater inlet hose, refer to Heater Inlet Hose Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.

•	For the heater outlet hose, refer to Heater Outlet Hose Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.

31. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement - Accessory .
32. Install the radiator, A/C condenser, and cooling fan assembly. Refer to Radiator Replacement in Engine Cooling.
33. Install the upper tie bar. Refer to Front End Upper Tie Bar Replacement in Body Front End.
34. Install the radiator hoses.

•	For the radiator inlet hose, refer to Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement in Engine Cooling.

•	For the radiator outlet hose, refer to Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement in Engine Cooling.

35. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 6.0L.
36. Raise the vehicle.
37. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
38. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
39. Fill the engine with motor oil. Refer to Draining Fluids and Oil Filter Removal .
40. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
41. Install the hood assembly. Refer to Hood Replacement in Body Front End.
