Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 1221268 Size: SH
  1. Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .

    2. Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in the Preface section.

  2. Release the parking brake.
  3. Remove the spindle cap (1).
  4. Remove and discard the cotter pin (2).
  5. Remove the castellated nut (3).
  6. Remove the rear axle washer (4).
  7. Remove the brake drum and bearing assembly from the rear axle spindle.

  8. If you are replacing the wheel bearing, remove the bearing, race and oil seal. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement .
  9. If you are replacing the hub bolts, remove the hub bolts using a hammer (1). Discard the bolts.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 1221272 Size: SH
  1. If necessary, install the new hub bolts using a hammer.
  2. If necessary, install the bearing, race, and oil seal. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement .
  3. Install the rear brake drum and bearing assembly to the rear axle spindle.
  4. Install the rear axle washer to the spindle.

    5. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install the castellated nut (1).

    6. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  6. Loosen the nut by 180 degrees.

    7. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 2.5 N·m (22 lb in).

  7. Install a new cotter pin to the spindle.
  8. Install the spindle cap.
  9. Adjust the parking brake.
  10. Install the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
