Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 176070 Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the spark plug wires from the spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  2. Disconnect the wiring harness from the clips, and move the harness aside.
  3. Remove the air cleaner intake duct for access to the right valve rocker arm cover. Refer toAir Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls.
  4. Remove the bolts and oil level indicator tube bracket. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement .
  5. Remove the AIR check valve (crossover), if so equiped. Refer to Secondary Air Injection Check Valve and Check Valve Pipe Replacement in Engine Controls.

  6. Remove the PCV tube.

    7. Object Number: 179249 Size: SH
  7. Remove the following components for access to the left valve rocker arm cover:
    8. • The air conditioning (A/C) compressor, if equipped, and lay the A/C compressor aside. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement .
    • The EGR valve inlet pipe. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Replacement in Engine Controls.
    • The PCV and the hose
    • The vacuum brake booster pipe, if equipped, and move it aside
    • Remove the valve rocker arm cover and the gasket. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Removal (Right) and Valve Rocker Arm Cover Installation (Left) .
    • Clean all traces of old gasket from the valve rocker arm cover and the cylinder head. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Clean and Inspect .

Installation Procedure
  1. Install the valve rocker arm cover.

    2. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Installation (Left) or Valve Rocker Arm Cover Removal (Right) .

  2. Install the components as follows for the left valve rocker arm cover:
    3. • The air conditioning compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement .
    • The EGR valve pipe. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Replacement in Engine Controls.
    • The PCV and the hose
    • The vacuum brake booster pipe
    • The AIR check valve (crossover) pipe, if equiped. Refer to Secondary Air Injection Check Valve and Check Valve Pipe Replacement in Engine Controls.

  3. Install the components as follows for the right valve rocker arm cover:
    4. • The air cleaner intake duct.
    • The crankcase ventilation hose.
    • The oil level indicator tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement .
  4. Install the wiring harnesses to the valve rocker arm cover clips.
  5. Install the spark plug wires. Refer to Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement in Engine Electrical.
