Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1263797 Size: SH
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the timing belt. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement .
  4. Remove the valve cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement .

    5. Object Number: 1263772 Size: SH

    Notice: All camshaft journals are the same diameter, so care must be used in removing or installing the camshaft to avoid damage to the camshaft bearings.

    Important: Take extreme care to prevent any scratches, nicks or damage to the camshaft. Such damage can cause premature engine wear.

  5. While holding the camshaft firmly in place, remove the camshaft gear retaining bolt.
  6. Remove the camshaft gear.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 1263772 Size: SH
  1. Install the camshaft gear.

    2. Important: Take extreme care to prevent any scratches, nicks or damage to the camshaft. Such damage can cause premature engine wear.

  2. While holding the camshaft firmly in place, install the camshaft gear retaining bolt.

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the gear retaining bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft) + 60 degrees + 15 degrees.

  3. Install valve cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement .
  4. Install the timing belt. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement .
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.
