Fuel Tank Replacement TrailBlazer EXT, Envoy XL, Envoy XUV
                    
Removal Procedure
- Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer
to the 
Fuel Pressure Relief 
 .
 
- Drain the fuel tank. Refer to 
Fuel Tank Draining 
 .
 
- Remove the frame brace. Refer to 
Frame Brace Replacement 
 in Frame and Underbody.
 
- Remove the fuel tank shield, if equipped. Refer to 
Fuel Tank Shield Replacement 
 in Frame and Underbody.
 
- Loosen the fuel hose clamp (1) at the fuel tank.
 
- Separate the fuel hose (2) from the fuel tank.
 
- Disconnect the fuel feed pipe (1)
and evaporative emission (EVAP) pipe (2). Refer to 
Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service 
 .
 
- Cap the fuel and EVAP pipes in order to prevent possible fuel system 
 contamination.
 
- With the aid of an assistant, support the
fuel tank.
 
Notice: Refer to Damage to Fuel Tank Straps Notice in the Preface section.
- Remove the fuel tank strap bolts (1).
 
- Remove the fuel tank straps (2).
 
- Carefully lower the fuel tank.
 
- Disconnect the fuel tank pressure sensor
electrical connector (4).
 
- Disconnect the EVAP vent valve electrical connector (9).
 
- Disconnect the fuel tank module (3) electrical connector.
 
- Remove the fuel tank.
 
- Place the fuel tank in a suitable work area.
 
- If the fuel tank is not being replaced, go to the Installation Procedure.
 
Disassembly Procedure
- Remove the fuel feed pipe from the fuel
module and retaining clip.
 
- Remove the EVAP solenoid pipe (3)
from the vent solenoid valve and the EVAP canister. Refer to 
Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service 
 .
 
- Remove the EVAP pipe assembly (2) from the fuel tank vent valves,
the fuel module, and the EVAP canister. Refer to 
Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service 
 .
 
- Remove the EVAP canister purge pipe (1) from the EVAP canister
and retaining clip. Refer to 
Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service 
 .
 
- Remove the EVAP vent valve (9). Refer
to 
Evaporative Emission Canister Vent Solenoid Valve Replacement 
 .
 
- Remove the fuel sender assembly (3) from the fuel tank. Refer to 
Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement 
 .
 
- Remove the EVAP canister (2). Refer to 
Evaporative Emission Canister Replacement 
 .
 
Assembly Procedure
- Install the EVAP canister (2). Refer
to 
Evaporative Emission Canister Replacement 
 .
 
- Install the fuel sender assembly (3) to the fuel tank. Refer to
Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement 
 .
 
- Install the EVAP vent valve (9). Refer to 
Evaporative Emission Canister Vent Solenoid Valve Replacement 
 .
 
- Install the EVAP canister purge pipe (1)
to the EVAP canister and retaining clip. Refer to 
Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service 
 .
 
- Install the EVAP pipe assembly (2) to the fuel tank vent valves,
the fuel module, and the EVAP canister. Refer to 
Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service 
 .
 
- Install the EVAP solenoid pipe (3) to the vent solenoid valve and
the EVAP canister. Refer to 
Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service 
 .
 
- Install the fuel feed pipe to the fuel module
and retaining clip.
 
Installation Procedure
- With the aid of an assistant, position and
support the fuel tank.
 
- Connect the fuel sender electrical connector (3).
 
- Connect the fuel tank pressure sensor electrical connector (4).
 
- Connect the EVAP vent valve electrical connector (9).
 
- Install the fuel tank straps (2).
 
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the fuel tank strap bolts (1).
 
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 32 N·m (24 lb
ft).
- Remove the caps from the fuel and EVAP pipes.
 
- Connect the fuel feed pipe  (1) and EVAP pipe (2). Refer
to 
Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service 
 .
 
- Connect the fuel hose (2) to the
fuel tank.
 
Tighten
Tighten the clamp (1) to 2.5 N·m
(22 lb in).
- Lower the vehicle.
 
- Refill the fuel tank.
 
- Install the fuel fill cap.
 
- Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to 
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection 
 in Engine Electrical.
 
- Inspect for leaks.
 
| 14.1.  | Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF for 10 seconds. |

| 14.3.  | Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF. | 
 
| 14.4.  | Inspect for fuel leaks. | 
 
- Install the fuel tank shield, if equipped. Refer to

 in Frame and Underbody.
 
- Install the frame brace. Refer to 
Frame Brace Replacement 
 in Frame and Underbody.
 
- Lower the vehicle.

Removal Procedure

- Raise the vehicle. Refer to

 .
 
- Remove the frame brace. Refer to 
Frame Brace Replacement
 .
 
- Remove the fuel tank shield, if equipped. Refer to 
Fuel Tank Shield Replacement
 .
 
- Drain the fuel tank. Refer to 
Fuel Tank Draining
 .
 
- Disconnect the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister fresh air pipe. Refer to 
Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
 .
 
- Disconnect the EVAP canister solenoid pipe. Refer to 
Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
 .
 
- Disconnect the EVAP purge pipe. Refer to 
Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
 .
 
- Disconnect the fuel filler pipe recirculation hose from the fuel tank. Refer to 
Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
 .
 
- Loosen the clamp securing the fuel fill pipe to the fuel tank.
 
- Disconnect the fuel fill pipe from the fuel tank.
 
- Disconnect the fuel feed pipe (2) and EVAP pipe (1) from the fuel tank. Refer to 
Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
 .
 
- Cap the fuel and EVAP pipes in order to prevent possible fuel system contamination.
 
- Support the fuel tank.
 
Notice: Refer to Damage to Fuel Tank Straps Notice in the Preface section.
- Remove the fuel tank strap attaching bolts.
 
- Remove the fuel tank straps.
 
- Carefully lower the fuel tank.
 
- Disconnect the EVAP vent valve electrical connector (8).
 
- Disconnect the fuel tank pressure sensor electrical connector (2).
 
- Disconnect the fuel sender electrical connector (1).
 
- Remove the fuel tank.
 
- Place the fuel tank in a suitable work area.
 
- If the fuel tank is not being replaced, go to the Installation Procedure.
 
Disassembly Procedure
- Cut and remove the tie (2) securing the fuel feed pipe and EVAP canister purge pipe together.
 
- Remove the fuel feed pipe (1) from the fuel sender module (4) and retaining clip (3). Refer to 
Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
 .
 
- Cut and remove the tie (1) securing the EVAP pipes together.
 
- Disconnect the EVAP pipe assembly (3) from the tank vent valves and fuel sender. Refer to 
Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
 .
 
- Remove the EVAP pipe assembly (3) from the tank.
 
- Remove the EVAP canister purge pipe (2) from the fuel tank.
 
- Remove the EVAP vent valve (8). Refer to 
Evaporative Emission Canister Vent Solenoid Valve Replacement
 .
 
- Remove the fuel sender assembly (4) from the fuel tank. Refer to 
Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement
 .
 
Assembly Procedure
- Install the fuel sender assembly (4) to the fuel tank. Refer to 
Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement
 .
 
- Install the EVAP vent valve (8). Refer to 
Evaporative Emission Canister Vent Solenoid Valve Replacement
 .
 
- Install the EVAP canister purge pipe (2) to the fuel tank.
 
- Install the EVAP pipe assembly (3) to the fuel tank.
 
- Connect the EVAP pipe assembly (3) to the tank vent valves and fuel sender. Refer to 
Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
 .
 
- Install a new tie (1) to secure the EVAP pipes together.
 
- Install the fuel feed pipe (1) to the fuel sender module (4) and retaining clip (3). Refer to 
Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
 .
 
- Install a new tie (2) securing the fuel feed pipe and EVAP canister purge pipe together.
 
Installation Procedure
- Support the fuel tank.
 
- Connect the fuel sender electrical connector (1).
 
- Connect the EVAP vent valve electrical connector (2).
 
- Connect the fuel pressure sensor electrical connector (8).
 
- Install the fuel tank straps.
 
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the fuel tank strap attaching bolts.
 
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 32 N·m (24 lb ft).
- Remove the caps from the fuel and EVAP pipes.
 
- Connect the fuel feed pipe (1) and the EVAP pipe (2). Refer to 
Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
 .
 
- Connect the fuel fill pipe to the fuel tank.
 
Tighten
Tighten the fuel fill hose clamp to 2.5 N·m (22 lb in).
- Connect the fuel filler pipe recirculation hose to the fuel tank. Refer to 
Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
 .
 
- Connect the EVAP purge pipe. Refer to 
Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
 .
 
- Connect the EVAP canister solenoid pipe. Refer to 
Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
 .
 
- Connect the EVAP canister fresh air pipe. Refer to 
Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
 .
 
- Lower the vehicle.
 
- Refill the fuel tank.
 
- Install the fuel filler cap.
 
- Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to 
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
 .
 
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to 
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
 .
 
- Inspect for leaks.
 
| 19.1.  | Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF for 10 seconds. | 
 
| 19.2.  | Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds. | 
 
| 19.3.  | Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. | 
 
| 19.4.  | Inspect for fuel leaks. | 
 
- Install the fuel tank shield, if equipped. Refer to

 .
 
- Install the frame brace. Refer to

 .
 
- Lower the vehicle.
