Removal Procedure
- Remove the engine sight
shield, if necessary. Refer to 
Upper Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement 
 in Engine Mechanical-4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L.
 
- Disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark plug.
 
| •  | Twist each spark plug wire 1/2 turn. | 
 
| •  | Pull only on the boot in order to remove the wire from the plug. | 
 
- Loosen the spark plug 1 or 2 turns.
 
- Brush or air blast away any dirt from around the spark plug.
 
- Remove the spark plug. If removing all the plug at one time, place
each plug in a tray marked with the corresponding cylinder numbers.
 
Installation Procedure
- Properly position the spark plug washer.
 
- Inspect the spark plug gap. Adjust the plug as needed.
 
Specification
Spark plug gap: 1.524 mm (0.060 in)
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Hand start the spark plug.
 
- Tighten the spark plug.
 
Tighten
|     •  | For used heads tighten the plug to 15 N·m  (11 lb ft). | 
 
|     •  | For new aluminum heads tighten the plug to 20 N·m
 (15 lb ft). | 
 
|     •  | For new iron heads, tighten the plug to 30 N·m  (22 lb ft). | 
 
- Install the spark plug
wire to the spark plug.
 
- Inspect the wire for proper installation:
 
| •  | Push sideways on each boot in order to inspect the seating. | 
 
| •  | Reinstall any loose boot. | 
 
- Install the engine sight shield, if necessary. Refer to 
Upper Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement 
 in Engine Mechanical-4.8L,
5.3L, and 6.0L.
