Diagnostic Instructions
DTC Descriptors
DTC P2264: Water In Fuel Sensor Circuit
Circuit/System Description
The water in fuel (WIF) sensor is located in the bottom of the fuel filter housing. The engine control module (ECM) monitors the WIF sensor signal circuit for a predetermined voltage.
Conditions for Running the DTC
|     •  | The DTC runs continuously once the above condition is met. |

Conditions for Setting the DTC
The ECM detects an incorrect WIF signal for more than 3 seconds.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
DTC P2264 is a Type C DTC.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
DTC P2264 is a Type C DTC.

Circuit/System Verification
- Start the engine, observe the DTC information with a scan tool. DTC P2264 should not set.

- Operate the vehicle within the conditions for running the DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that are captured in the Freeze Frame/Failure Records List.

Circuit/System Testing
- Ignition OFF, and the MAIN fuse removed, disconnect the harness connector at the WIF sensor.

- Test for less than 5 ohms of resistance between the ground circuit terminal 2 and ground.

| ⇒ | If greater than the specified range, repair the open/high resistance in the ground circuit. |

- Install the MAIN fuse. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the ignition circuit terminal 3 and ground.

| ⇒ | If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ignition circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal and the ignition circuit fuse is open, test all the components connected to the ignition circuit
 and replace as necessary. |

- Verify the scan tool WIF sensor parameter displays No Water.

| ⇒ | If the parameter displays Water, test the signal circuit for a short to ground. If the circuits/connections test normal, replace the ECM. |

Important: If the fuse in the jumper wire opens, the signal circuit is shorted to a voltage and the sensor may be damaged.
- Install a 1A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 1 and ground. Verify the scan tool WIF sensor parameter displays Water.

| ⇒ | If the parameter displays No Water, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage, or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM. |

- If all circuits/connections test normal, replace the WIF sensor.
