- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking
in General Information.
- Remove the extension housing from the transmission case (two-wheel drive
models). Refer to
Extension Housing Removal
.
- Remove the transfer adapter case from the transmission case (four-wheel
drive models). Refer to Transfer Case Mount Replacement in Driveline/Axle.
- Remove the following items from the transmission output
shaft (3):
| • | The two speedometer drive gear retaining rings (1) |
| • | The speedometer drive gear (2) |
- Install the governing ring (417) onto the transmission
output shaft.
- Install the governor hub (408).
- Remove the governor assembly bolts (2) from the governor
hub (3).
- Remove the governor assembly (1) and the governor assembly gasket.
- Remove the governor fluid screen (2).
- Remove the following from the governor body (412):
| • | The secondary valve retainer (411) |
| • | The secondary spring (414) |
| • | The secondary valve (413) |
| • | The primary valve (415) |
- Clean all of the governor components with solvent. Allow the components
to air dry.
- Inspect the governor hub seal rings (406) for cuts
or other damage. Replace the rings as necessary.
- Inspect the primary (415) and the secondary (413)
valves for nicks and burs. Replace the governor assembly as necessary
- Inspect the fluid passages and valve bores in the governor body for nicks,
burrs or varnish. Replace the governor assembly as necessary.
