Condition
Some customers may comment on any of the following conditions:
| • | Transfer case leak |
| • | Transmission downshifting |
| • | Loss of power |
| • | Vehicle will not move |
| • | A major component failure |
Cause
Design tolerances may lead to insufficient lubrication of the rear output shaft bushing in the transfer case.
Correction
Use the following SI procedures to correct the condition.
- Refer to SI document ID #821933 to remove the transfer case.
- Refer to SI document ID #857284 to replace the rear case half, the rear output seal and inspect and replace transfer case components as necessary.
- Refer to SI document ID #821933 to install the transfer case.
- Replace the propeller shaft with a new longer style propeller shaft. The tube portion of the propeller shaft is 19 mm (0.75 in).
