Important: The following steps must be completed before using the symptom tables.
| • | There are no DTCs set. | 
| • | The control modules can communicate via the serial data link. | 
| • | Inspect for aftermarket devices which could affect the operation of the Instrument Cluster or Audible Warning Systems. Refer to Checking Aftermarket Accessories. | 
| • | Inspect the easily accessible or visible system components for obvious damage or conditions which could cause the symptom. | 
| • | Inspect for proper fluid level. | 
Faulty electrical connections or wiring may be the cause of intermittent conditions. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections.
Refer to a symptom diagnostic procedure from the following list in order to diagnose the symptom:
| • | Service Indicator Always On for the BW 4484 transfer case | 
| • | Service Indicator Inoperative for the BW 4484 transfer case | 
| • | Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Diagnosis for the 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, 6.2L and 7.0L engines | 
| • | Tow/Haul Switch/Indicator Always On or Inoperative for the 6L50/6L80/6L90 automatic transmission |
