Removal Procedure
CAUTION: When you are performing service on or near the SRS components or the
SRS wiring, you must disable the SRS system. Refer to Disabling the SRS System.
Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause air bag deployment,
personal injury, or unnecessary SRS system repairs.
Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
• | Unnecessary SIR system repairs |
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
• | Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring. |
• | If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. |
- Disable
the SRS system. Refer to
Disabling the SRS
.
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position to unlock the steering
wheel.
- Turn the steering wheel
90 degrees from the straight-ahead position in order to gain access to the
access holes behind the steering wheel.
- Insert a screwdriver into each access hole and push the leaf spring
to release the pin that retains the inflator module.
- Turn the steering wheel
180 degrees to gain access to the remaining access holes.
- Insert a screwdriver into
each access hole and push the leaf spring to release the pin that retains
the inflator module.
- Tilt the top of the inflator
module rearward to gain access to the SRS wiring.
- Disconnect the SRS lead wire from the clip on the inflator module.
- Disconnect the SRS lead wire from the clip on the steering wheel.
- Disconnect the connector position assurance (CPA) retainer.
- Disconnect the electrical connector.
- Remove the inflator module from the vehicle.
Caution
When you are carrying an undeployed inflator module:
• | Do not carry the inflator module by the wires or connector on
the inflator module. |
• | Make sure the bag opening points away from you. |
When you are storing an undeployed inflator module, make sure the bag
opening points away from the surface on which the inflator rests. When you
are storing a steering column, do not rest the column with the bag opening
facing down and the column vertical. Provide free space for the air bag
to expand in case of an accidental deployment. Otherwise, personal injury
may result.
Installation Procedure
- Connect the electrical connector and the CPA retainer.
- Connect the inflator module.
- Connect the electrical
connector.
- Connect the SRS lead wire to the clip on the steering wheel.
- Connect the SRS lead wire to the clip on the inflator module.
Important: Make sure that the SRS wires do not get pinched during installation
of the inflator module.
- Install the inflator module by pressing the inflator module firmly onto
the steering wheel to engage and latch the leaf springs on the four notched
pins.
