For 1990-2009 cars only
The lip seals covering the rotating shafts require special treatment. The following components use the lip seals:
| • | The steering gear at the valve and at the pinion |
| • | The drive shaft of the pump |
When a leak occurs in one of these areas, perform the following procedure:
- Inspect the sealing surfaces.
- Thoroughly clean the sealing surfaces.
- Replace the lip seals.
If the lip seal contact zone is corroded, clean the surface of the shaft with a crocus cloth.
Replace the shaft only if the following conditions occur:
| • | Severe pitting is found. |
| • | The leakage cannot be stopped by first smoothing with crocus cloth. |
