Endgate Replacement Utility

1. Remove the endgate torque rod. Refer to Endgate Torque Rod Replacement .



2. Remove the endgate opening sill trim plate in order to access the wiring harness connectors. Refer to Rear Floor Rear Trim Plate Replacement in Interior Trim.
3. Disconnect the electrical connectors, as needed.
4. Disconnect the endgate window washer fluid hose.
5. Safely support the endgate in the open position in order to remove the grommet from the endgate.
6. Remove the endgate struts. Refer to Endgate Strut Replacement and Endgate Cable Replacement .



7. Remove the endgate spare tire reinforcement (if equipped).



8. Remove the hinge pin retainers.

Discard the hinge pin retainers.

9. Remove the hinge pins from the right hinge.
10. Remove the hinge pins from the left hinge.
11. With an assistant, remove the endgate from the vehicle.

1. With an assistant, safely support the endgate in the open position in order to install the endgate to the vehicle.



2. Install the hinge pins to the right hinges.
3. Install the hinge pins to the left hinges.
4. Install the new hinge pin retainers.
5. Install the endgate supports. Refer to Endgate Cable Replacement .
6. Install the endgate struts. Refer to Endgate Strut Replacement .
7. Install the grommet to the endgate.



8. Connect the endgate window washer fluid hose.
9. Connect the electrical connectors, as needed.
10. Install the endgate opening sill plate. Refer to Rear Floor Rear Trim Plate Replacement in Interior Trim.
11. Install the endgate torque rod. Refer to Endgate Torque Rod Replacement .



12. Install the endgate mounted spare tire reinforcement (if equipped).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

13. Tighten the bolts retaining the spare tire reinforcement.

Tighten
Tighten the reinforcement bolts to 10 N·m(88 lb in)

Endgate Replacement Pickup

1. Perform the following steps in order to disconnect the right and left pickup box endgate cables from the endgate striker bolts:

1.1.	Open the endgate.

1.2.	Safely support the endgate.

1.3.	Disconnect the slotted hole at the end of the cable from the endgate striker bolt.




2. Remove the endgate from the vehicle:

2.1.	Raise the endgate to a 45 degree angle.

Do not pinch the cable between the endgate and the pickup box.

2.2.	Lift the endgate from the left side hinge.

2.3.	Lift the endgate from the right side hinge.

1. Perform the following steps in order to install the endgate to the vehicle:

1.1.	Install the endgate to the right side hinge.

1.2.	Hold the endgate at a 45 degree angle in order to seat the endgate to the left side hinge.




2. Connect the right pickup endgate cable to the endgate striker bolts.
3. Connect the left pickup endgate cable to the endgate striker bolts.
