1987 FIRENZA MODELS EQUIPPED WITH 2.0L OHV (VIN CODE 1) ENGINES AND AIR CONDITIONING
Some 1987 Firenzas may not have proper clearance between some of the air conditioning hoses/lines and some engine components. This condition can lead to abrasion of air conditioning hoses/lines or melting of hoses if routed too close to exhaust system components.
If any of these conditions are encountered, and replacement of any of the air conditioning hoses/pipes is required, the routing of the hoses/pipes should be carefully adjusted to achieve the following MINIMUM clearances:
A/C muffler to exhaust flange 23.5 mm (approx. 15/16 in.) Suction hose to exhaust manifold 40.0 mm (approx. 1 - 9/16 in.) Discharge line to alternator bracket 30.0 mm (approx. 1 - 3/16 in.)
Refer to Figure 1
Use applicable Labor Time and Operation Numbers.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
